Started with a Caesar salad with an extremely fishy flavor. The server came back and asked how the salad was and I shared my disappointment. I was brought a garden salad which was fine, and the owner did come by and apologize. However, the pasta dish with meatballs I next ordered was again disappointing. The pasta was okay, but the meatballs were very dry and over-cooked. Beyond the owner coming by, service was spotty and prices okay. Won't be back.

We visited the restaurant for the first time last night. The food was excellent and the waitress, Christina, was very attentive and provided great service. The grilled octopus was very good as well as the main dishes, chicken and eggplant. We will certainly return.

My original review below stands. 5 Stars. I simply want to offer a tip: Read the reviews that are currently not recommended. You will get a truer picture of the quality of this restaurant. I eat out near every day of the week and La Buona Vita is one of my "Go To" restaurants. In fact I favor this restaurant for celebrations requiring a little flair and no risk of disappointment. Tonight I'm gorging myself on a basic platter of spaghetti bolognese. Sometimes you have to go back to basics to really appreciate just how good a restaurant is. Dessert of Chocolate Chip Creme Bruiee. From the basics to the decadent in a single meal. My kind of place La Buona Vita is. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This is the former Marconi's. Slightly updated interior. More emphasis on the bar. The main difference is the food. Marconi's food was pretty darn good, but now it's been taken to the next level. My third time here since the change of owners. All three times better and better. Memorably Lobster Ravioli, with lots of lobster. And lamb chops. OMG Lamb Chops at that. Tiramisu and fried ice cream for my just deserts. All backed up by great service from Christina DiGian. This place is a grand slam. Daily specials. Free parking lot at Ashland and Calendar.

I had a similar experience to DJ's below. I've been to this restaurant before and the food was great, but this time the service was very disappointing! After we sat down and told the waitress (Rosemary I believe was her name) that we would be only having wine - her first response was to roll her eye's at us and walk away. After she brought us our drinks she never came back to see how we were doing or if we wanted to order anything else. Then we flagged down one of the other employees and asked for the bill, he communicated that to her as she was walking by and she said, "Oh their finally leaving after their 2 glasses of wine". *Please note that it's impossible for customers to order additional food or glasses of wine if the waitresses never comes back to our table. It's also very unpleasant as a paying customer to have to hear rude comments from the waitress when they didn't perform in their job role accordingly.

GREAT FOOD with very decent price! They also have things thats not on their menu but will amaze you. The chef will even make special food per your request. Their had made pasta is amazing. You can certainly taste the difference in their noodles. This is a must try place.

I have to admit, when my mom, auntie and I strolled into this new Italian spot in La Grange our expectations were low. Not for any other reason than its a new spot, and sometimes there are glitches that still need to be worked out. Not with La Buona Vita! We had a reservation set for 6:30 on a Saturday evening, and they let us choose a table by the windows, so we were off to a good start. The inside is very cleanly decorated and beautiful. Our waitress, (I wish I could remember her name!) was wonderful. Very welcoming and helpful. We wanted to taste wines before we ordered a bottle and she quickly brought us two samples. My mom wanted to order the Chicken Vesuvio, which takes about thirty minutes to prepare. Our waitress overheard and suggested she put that order in first while my auntie and I decided on our dishes. The timing was perfect! By the time we had ordered, it matched up to the original dish's preparation and all of our entrees came out together, pipping hot. I ordered the lobster ravioli, which was the special for the evening, it came in a light brandy sauce and was delicious. All of our food was hot and well prepared. We were absolutely surprised and delighted with the service and quality of the food. I'm only ranking it four out of five stars to save a star for the next time I go!

This place used to be Marconi's and had some good dishes (and half-priced bottles of wine on Fridays!). Yesterday was our first and last visit under the new owners and name. Our food was very disappointing. My daughter's Caesar salad was basically an underdressed house salad. I had rigatoni with vodka sauce, prosciutto and peas. The sauce tasted like beef broth. The peas were mushy. The strips of prosciutto were stuck together and hard. And the shaved Parmesan cheese was also hard like it had been pre-shaved and sitting in the fridge uncovered. My wife's lasagna was okay, but salty. Never again.

Food was excellent. Music was OK, but way too loud and inappropriate for such a small place. I came for dinner, not for entertainment. Don't come here if you expect to communicate with your fellow diners. Too bad, loved the food!

We ordered carry out recently and our food was delicious. I had the gnocchi and I loved them. The pasta was doughy little puffs with a wonderful tomato basil sauce. My husband had the rigatoni emilio, which he said was fabulous. The sauce was very flavorful with the right amount of garlic. We both loved the house salad dressing. We look forward to going back when we can dine in the restaurant.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
